Art

Anger fuels a lot of Art, but so do joy, sorrow, tenderness, pity, even boredom.

Book club

It was great last night, my first book club meeting, great collection of books, lively atmosphere, interesting conversation excellent red wine and a fantastic Pasta Flora (Greek Jam Tart) We decided on a book: “Aunt Julia and the scriptwriter” by a Peruvian author called: Mario Vargas LIosa.

The plot concerns Mario, an aspiring writer, who works at a radio station that broadcasts, live each day, up to a half-dozen novelas (short-run soap operas). At the same time that the author meets his "Aunt Julia", the radio station, which had been buying scripts by weight from Cuba, hires a Bolivian scriptwriter to write the serials. The novel chronicles the scriptwriter's rise and fall in tandem with the protagonist's affair and includes descriptions of the serials that the station broadcasts.

It is based in part on the author's first marriage, to Julia Urquidi.

I can’t wait to start reading it.

I wish I had more free time to read books. During the summer holidays I managed to read 3 books during a 4-week period. However since I started work in September I am reading about 5 pages per week. I often try to read at bed but after a page I fall asleep.

So I am going to make some time (not sure how) and read more.

……………..I promise.
