In sculpture there must be a complete realisation of the structure and quality of the stone or wood which is been carved. But I do not think that this alone supplies the life and vitality of sculpture. I belive that the understanding of the material and meaning of the form being carved must be in perfect equilibrium. There are fundamental shapes which speak at all times and periods in the language of sculptures.
